NEC Receives Assistance from China

National Election Committee (NEC) received yesterday operation materials worth almost US$12 million from the People's Republic of China.

The materials of 33 items include vehicles, communication equipment, boxes, computers, printers, and cameras.

NEC President H.E. Sik Bunhok and Ambassador of China to Cambodia H.E. Xiong Bo represented the two countries in an official handover ceremony held here in Phnom Penh.

H.E. Sik Bunhok thanked the Ambassador and the Government of China for continuing support to the Royal Government of Cambodia.

China's assistance for the election equipment alone for Cambodia began in 1998.

Cambodia's fourth mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election was scheduled on June 4, 2017. About 82 percent or 7,873,194 of Cambodians eligible for voting have been registered.

Key external sources of assistance for the election operation have derived from China, European Union, Japan and a number of international organisations.
