NEC Speaks Highly of Good Process of Commune/Sangkat Council Election Campaign

The campaign for the Commune/Sangkat Council Election, taking place from May 20 to June 2, 2017 was conducted in a good atmosphere and without noticeable violence, said a member of the National Election Committee (NEC).

At a press conference held here this afternoon, H.E. Ms. Te Manyrong, a NEC's member, lauded the smooth process of the two-week campaign as well as the 12 participating political parties' good order, tolerance and political maturity.

H.E. Ms. Te Manyrong also appreciated highly the key role of local authorities, security forces and NEC's officials at all levels in ensuring order and providing favorable conditions for all the participating political parties.

During the 14-day election campaign, she added, there are in total 79 complaints, of which 53 from the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), 20 from the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), 1 from FUNCIPEC Party, and 5 from local people.

The twelve political parties include CPP, CNRP, FUNCINPEC, League for Democracy Party, Beehive Democratic Society Party, Grassroots Democracy Party, Khmer National United Party, Cambodian Nationality Party, Republican Democracy Party, Cambodian Youth Party, Khmer Power Party, and Cambodian Indigenous Democracy Party.

About 7.8 million � of them 58.3 percent are women and some ten thousands are Buddhist monks � have been registered for the Commune/Sangkat Council Election on June 4.
