NEC To Spend US$23 Million for Upcoming Voter Registration

The computerized voter registration for 2017 Commune/Sangkat Council Election would cost some US$23 million, H.E. Tep Nytha, Secretary General of the National Election Committee (NEC), told reporters after a meeting with a visiting delegation of Kofi Annan Foundation here on May 24.

It is estimated that there are over 9.6 million eligible voters, said the NEC secretary general, adding that the five-month-and-a-half voter registration would begin in September 2016 as NEC is waiting for the last delivery of technical supplies from the European Union in mid-July.

Regarding the meeting with the delegation of Kofi Annan Foundation, H.E. Tep Nytha said the foundation did not provide NEC with any technical assistance, but with ideas and experience from other countries for a better election organisation as there is no model of election.

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) announced yesterday that the fourth-mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election will take place on Sunday June 4, 2017.
