NEC’s Decision of Six More Cases Endorsed by Constitutional Council

Constitutional Council of Cambodia on Jan. 31 endorsed National Election Committee (NEC)’s decisions to maintain other 497 voters in the preliminary list due to insufficient evidence to support the cases.

Six complaints were escalated to the Constitutional Council after the complainants were not satisfied with the decision by NEC to not drop the 497 voters, suspected with Vietnamese origin, from the list of voters.

The 497 are residents of four Sangkats of Phnom Penh capital.

Complainants could not provide concrete evidence to support their cases; and the accused have necessary identification documents to support their voting legibility.

After about one-hour hearing, the Constitutional Council endorsed complete decision made by NEC.
