New German Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on Cambodian PM

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, received here at the Peace Palace this morning a courtesy visit from H.E. Stefan Anton Messerer, newly-appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Cambodia.
According to H.E. Eang Sophalleth, Assistant to the Cambodian Premier, H.E. Stefan Anton Messerer highly valued the rapid development of Cambodia, stressing that Germany is happy to assist Cambodia in its development process.
The new German diplomat pledged to do his best to further promote the relations and cooperation between the two countries, especially to boost more German investments in Cambodia.
H.E. Stefan Anton Messerer also spoke highly of Cambodia’s stance over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war as well as its efforts in finding solutions to the Myanmar issue.
For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed warm welcome to and congratulated H.E. Stefan Anton Messerer on his diplomatic mission in Cambodia, and profoundly thanked the German people and government for their support for the Kingdom, particularly in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, reaffirming that Cambodia’s development is inseparable from Germany’s assistance.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, the Cambodian Prime Minister said the war is one thing, but another important thing is too much sanctions which have been affecting not only Russia and Europe, but also the whole world, including Cambodia. He therefore called for a revision of this issue.
On the Myanmar crisis, Samdech Techo Hun Sen re-emphasised the purposes of his visit to Myanmar early this year – cessation of violence, delivery of humanitarian aid to those in most need and encouragement for political dialogue – adding that we need to be patient and put more efforts for the happiness and peace of the people of Myanmar as well as the region and the world.
