New Phnom Penh Airport Dubbed Takhmao Techo International Airport

The new Phnom Penh International Airport being built in Kandal and Takeo provinces have been dubbed the Takhmao Techo International Airport.
The name has been selected among four names, said Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen during his inspection visit to the construction site this morning.
The Premier explained that the name – Takhmao Techo International Airport – was chosen not because of the word “Techo”, his title, but it reminds the history of Techo Meas, a Cambodian strong army commander, and it shows that Cambodia in a monarchy.
“The title of Techo exists only in the monarchy and is only bestowed upon someone by His Majesty the King,” he underlined.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uphold the monarchy.
Located on an area of 2,600 hectares in Takhmao city and Kandal Stung district of Kandal province and Bati district of Takeo province and with a total investment capital of some US$1,500 million, the airport project achieved now at 27 percent and is expected to complete in 2023.
Apart from the Takhmao Techo International Airport, the Royal Government has been building a new international airport in Siem Reap province whose construction would also finish in 2023 and the Dara Sakor International Airport in Koh Kong province scheduled to put into use later this year.
Besides, the Royal Government has planned the construction of airports in the provinces of Mondulkiri, Banteay Meanchey, Koh Kong, and Battambang.
