New Water Treatment Plant in West Phnom Penh Planned to Build in August

The Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority (PPWSA) will break ground for new water treatment plant in Sangkat Pleung Chhes Rotes, Khan Kambol, a move to increase the supply of piped clean water to people residing in the area.

Speaking at a press conference organised by the Royal Government Spokesperson Unit here on June 9, H.E. Long Naro, PPWSA Director General, said that the construction of the new water treatment plant is funded by the Japanese government.

With capacity of producing 5,000 cubic metres per day, the plant will be constructed in August or September and is scheduled to operate in the second quarter of 2024, he said.

“We need to build another water treatment plant in Boeung Thom, in the area of Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, which pumps water from Prek Tnaot River,” he added. “This is to ensure the supply of clean water to people in Sangkat Phleung Chhes Rotes, who currently have limited access to piped clean water.”

The daily water consumption in Phnom Penh and Takhmao town of Kandal province is currently more than 800,000 cubic metres, while the water supply by the PPWSA is only 600,000 cubic metres per day.
