Noble Monks and Delegates from Mekong Countries Gather for Dhamma Yatra in Phnom Penh

Noble monks from five countries along the Mekong River Basin have gathered here in Phnom Penh recently as part of their 15-day Buddhism meditative and spiritual journey, so-called Dhamma Yatra.

Organised at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, the gathering was officially witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Hor Namhong and Ambassador of Thailand to Cambodia H.E. Nuttavudh Photisaro as well as other senior representatives of the participating countries and beyond.

The Dhamma Yatra was kick-started in Thailand on May 1 and is expected to be concluded in the same country.

Before entering Cambodia, the meditative and spiritual journey passed Laos; and after Cambodia it will head to Vietnam, return back to Cambodia and Thailand, and then go to Myanmar before the wrap-up in Thailand.

Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong viewed the journey as the first of its kind for Cambodia and was positive that it will contribute to building closer cultural tie among the Mekong countries.

Dhamma Yatra was initiated to promote the teachings in Buddhism, including regular sitting and walking meditations with instruction and guidance, debates and discussions.
