Online Disturbance to NEC Site Being Addressed

Online interruption, allegedly by hackers, to the website of the National Election Committee (NEC) did not affect the posted lists of voters and the case is being addressed.

According to NEC Spokesperson H.E. Hang Puthea, the interruption began since the first day of preliminary announcement of voter lists, available both at commune/Sangkat halls across Cambodia and online via www.voterlist.org.kh.

The online disturbance, he added, slowed down the operation of the page and disconnected the link to the voter lists posted, but did not harm voter lists.

NEC is announcing preliminary lists of voters and opening for complaints of individual identity verification and eligibility of other voters until Jan. 14.

The independent committee that has registered over seven million eligible Cambodian voters has scheduled to announce official lists of voters on Feb. 12.

In addition to the coordination for bigger bandwidth fasten online data transmission of its site, NEC is working hard to address the suspected hacking issue.

The committee also encouraged voters to drop by their respective commune/Sangkat hall to ensure the accuracy of their identity.
