OVER 200 CHINESE ARRESTED IN CAMBODIA FOR HONEY TRAP SCAM

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia -- Over 200 Chinese nationals were arrested in Cambodia for running a blackmail scam targeting Chinese civil servants, local media reported on Thursday.

The group contacted the civil servants over WeChat posing as potential romantic partners and then exchanged compromising photos, according to the Phnom Penh Post.

They would then blackmail the individual for between 10,000 and 100,000 yuan (1,486-14,864 dollars), earning the group over 30,000 dollars a week.

Police received a tip-off from Chinese police, according to the newspaper, leading the arrest of 215 people at a guest house near the border with Thailand on Wednesday.

Several of the group were released later the same day but the rest will be deported to China for prosecution.
