Over 400,000 Tourists Recorded in First Two Days of River Festival

More than 400,000 national and international tourists were recorded during the first two days (Mar. 7-8) of River Festival in Kampong Thom province, said the Ministry of Tourism in a report released this morning.
Of the registered number, the source pointed out, some 18,500 were registered on Mar. 7 and 385,000 on Mar. 8.
This year’s River Festival will last until Mar. 10 under the theme “Our River for Now and Next”.
According to H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, the 7th River Festival is expected to attract at least one million visitors.
The River Festival aims to further promote tourism potentials of the provinces along the river as well as to encourage the participation of local people in sustainable tourism development.
Arts performances, concerts and fireworks, Khmer and international food and beverage fair, tourism product exhibition, agri-tourism and local commercial products exhibition, and the presentation of the tourism development projects from each province along the river as well as sports activities are part of this year’s programme.
River Festival is organised every year on a rotation basis by the riparian provinces, and the first round was organised in Kratie in 2015, followed by the second in Stung Treng, the third in Kampong Cham and Thbong Khmum, the fourth in Kandal, the fifth in Kampong Chhnang, and the sixth in Battambang.
