Over 7 Tonnes of Illicit Drug Confiscated during COVID-19 Pandemic

Cambodian police has confiscated over 7 tonnes of illicit drug during the COVID-19 spread in the country.

The update was shared by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng when chairing “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on June 26.

Of the figure, over 3 tonnes of illicit drug were cracked down in 2020, and 4 tonnes in 2021, continued Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng.

In 2020, competent authorities intervened 10,461 cases of illicit drug crimes, and other 6,308 cases in 2021, underlined the deputy prime minister.

Through the interventions, 21,566 suspects were arrested in 2020 and 13,979 in 2021.

Despite the achievement, illegal drug use and trafficking in the region and the world remain high affecting Cambodia, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Royal Government of Cambodia is working hard in preventing and cracking down on all offense and drug-related crimes, he added.
