Over 800 Police Officials Deployed for 13th ASEM Summit in Phnom Penh

Cambodia will deploy over 800 national police officials to strengthen social security and public order in Phnom Penh when the capital hosts the 13th ASEM Summit in 2020.

The update was shared with local media by Gen. Sar Theth, Deputy Commissioner General of National Police of Cambodia and Commissioner of Phnom Penh Municipal Police in a ceremony to respect national flag here in Phnom Penh recently.

On the occasion, Gen. Sar Theth encouraged the police officials to well exercise their authority and closely cooperate with those concerned in order to effectively protect the safety of people, delegates and top leaders of participating member countries.

He also called on them to respect disciplines and orders of the National Police Commissioner of Cambodia to evade unexpected incidents.

This is the first time for Cambodia to host the ASEM Summit expected to attract the participation of delegates from 51 Asia-Europe member countries, ASEAN Secretariat and European Union.

Issues on politics, economy, tourism, investment, diplomacy, environment, weather, enhancement of women and children’s rights, ITC, relations between Asia and Europe, security, and terrorism prevention will be on the agenda of the gathering.

In 2018, the 12th Asia-EU meeting was hosted by Belgium.
