Petanque: Another Cambodian Athlete Makes History at World Championships

A Cambodian petanque player, Sok Chan Mean, won a gold medal at the 47th World Championships held from Dec. 1 to 4, 2016 in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Sok Chan Mean defeated his French counterpart, Boursicaud Bruno, 36-29 at the final round.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen expressed congratulations to Sok Chan Mean, stressing that this is a pride of Cambodia as a whole.

“I will welcome him on Dec. 9, 2016 at 04:00 pm at the Peace Palace,” he said.

Cambodia sent four athletes to participate in this world competition, which attracted athletes from 48 countries around the world.

Sok Chan Mean is the second Cambodian athlete who won this world recognition after Ms. Ke Leng who won a gold medal at the Women World Petanque Championship 2015 in Bangkok, thus defending successfully her 2013 petanque world champion title.
