Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway Planned

An expressway linking Phnom Penh capital to Bavet, Svay Rieng province bordering Vietnam, will be constructed soon, after getting the approval from Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, according to local media reports.

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been studying the construction project which would cost over US$2,000 million, a low interest loan from Japan.

The estimated 160-kilometer Phnom Penh-Bavet expressway will not be built on the existing National Road number 1, and the construction will be divided into three stages – Phnom Penh-Prey Veng, Prey Veng-Svay Rieng, and Svay Rieng-Bavet.

This toll road is an added-value to boost Cambodia’s economic growth.
