Phnom Penh Capital Has 182 Traffic Congestion Hotspots

Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, has a total of 182 traffic congestion hotspots, said H.E. Pa Socheatevong, Governor of Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the Annual Stocktaking 2016 on Enforcement of Traffic Law and Action Plan for 2017 of the National Road Safety Committee (NRSC) held here yesterday, H.E. Pa Socheatevong said to tackle this problem, Phnom Penh Municipality has been cooperating with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to install more than 200 modern traffic lights while those currently used will be reinstalled in the suburbs.

The Phnom Penh governor took the opportunity to ask for the recruitment of 300 contracted officers to help the current over 400 traffic police, most of them will reach the retirement age soon.

The authorities will also install 600 security cameras at public places to maintain national security and social order, along with new traffic signs and streetlights.
