Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur Sister-City Alliance Planned

Cambodia and Malaysia have agreed to establish sister-city alliance between Phnom Penh and Kuala Lumpur in the near future.

The intention was proposed by Ambassador of Malaysia to Cambodia H.E. Dato' Sri Hasan Malek in a recent meeting with Phnom Penh Municipal Governor H.E. Pa Socheatevong at the municipal hall here in Phnom Penh.

H.E. Pa Socheatevong welcomed the initiative and encouraged the tie to be formalised the soonest possible.

The Malaysian ambassador spoke highly about the development of various sectors in Phnom Penh and is optimistic that the sister-city alliance will mutually benefit the two cities and their residents.

Diplomatic relation between the two ASEAN countries dates back to over 60 years ago and it has become more intimate after the region's comprehensive economic integration in 2015.

The two sides also touched on the preparation of Baton Run in Phnom Penh to mark the celebration of the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia and the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN.
