Phnom Penh Municipal Administration Issues a Directive to Ensure Safe and Orderly New Year Celebrations

Phnom Penh municipal administration has issued a directive urging for road traffic law respect and prevention of accidental fire in order to ensure security, safety and public order during the upcoming Khmer Traditional New Year celebrations.
In its announcement made public this morning, the municipal administration also called on people to avoid splashing water, throwing water bags, smearing passers-by with powder, and whipping them with bamboo switches.
Attention to health, hygiene and COVID-19 preventive rules are required to avoid a potential outbreak of the pandemic, it added.
Earlier on April 1, the Phnom Penh municipal administration announced to organise Wat Phnom Sankranta at Wat Phnom historical and cultural site from April 14 to 16, to cheer the Khmer Traditional New Year.
Wat Phnom Sankranta will include traditional and popular games, prayers at the Daun Penh statue, ceremonious sand-hill building, exhibition of paintings, concerts and dances.
This year, the Cambodian people are going to celebrate their Traditional New Year from April 14 to 16.
