Phnom Penh’s Second Airport Project Formalised

Royal Government of Cambodia has recently announced the formalisation of Phnom Penh's second airport construction project worth around US$1.5 billion.

The 4F class airport to encompass some 2,600 hectares of land in Takhmao city of Kandal Phnom Penh's neigbouring province in the south will be made possible through a co-investment of 90 percent from a domestic group OCIC (Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation) and 10 percent from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

The notice follows an official agreement inked late last week in the presence of Cambodia's Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and visiting Chinese Premier H.E. Li Keqiang.

The signing of the agreement was between OCIC owner Oknha Pung Khieu Se and the representative of the China Development Bank toward a financial cooperation for the airport construction project.

With the future existence of the new airport, whose timeframe was not yet known, Cambodia will consequently be able to attract more tourists and increase the country's economy.
