PM Asks Candlelight Party’s Leaders to Clarify Sam Rainsy’s Message

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning asked the Candlelight Party (CLP)’s leaders to clarify self-imposed exile Sam Rainsy’s message insulting His Majesty the King.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen made the call during a distribution ceremony of rice seeds and foodstuffs to 3,460 flood-affected families in Kampong Chhnang province.
The Prime Minister stated that he wanted the leaders of this party to come out and explain clearly whether such insults to the King are justified because this party was formed by some politicians who are close to Sam Rainsy.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Sam Rainsy’s message is an attempt to overthrow the Royal Government and the constitutional monarchy.
The Premier appealed to the armed forces, as well as supporters of the Cambodian People’s Party and other parties, to be ready to defend the monarchy, the throne, the King and oppose Sam Rainsy, who wanted to overthrow the legitimate Royal Government and insult the King.
According to the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats, CLP was originally known as the Khmer Nation Party and founded by Sam Rainsy. It was established on Nov. 2, 1995 and officially announced a week later.
It is currently led by Teav Vannol as the president, and Son Chhay, Thach Setha, Chep Kim Eang as the Vice Presidents.
