PM Explains Progress in Religious Sector in the Country

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has highlighted the roots for the progress in religious sector in Cambodia.

Current religious achievements in Cambodia have resulted from four main roots, said the Cambodian premier while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of new achievements in Prek Pra pagoda located in Khan Chbar Ampov, Phnom Penh this morning.

First is the right policy of the ruling political party; second, the people’s strong belief; third, people’s better living standard; and fourth, peace and safety in the country, he explained.

Cambodia is recognised by her religious freedom even though Buddhism is the state religion. Some 95 percent of the population of about 15 million are Buddhists with a total of 4,514 pagodas and 56,820 monks across the country. Islam has about 300,000 followers, and about 0.25 percent of Cambodian people follow Christianity, animism and so on.
