PM Hun Sen Arrives in New York for 77th UNGA

A high-level Cambodian delegation led by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen arrived in New York on Sept. 21 evening (time in New York) to attend the 77th Session of the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) under the theme “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges”.

The delegation was warmly welcomed upon arrival at Westchester County Airport by representative of the UN Secretary-General, H.E. Ambassador Ker Sovann, Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the UN, and many other senior officials of the Cambodian Permanent Mission to the UN, and at his hotel by some 100 Cambodian people living in the U.S.

As scheduled, on Sept. 23 at noon (New York time), Samdech Techo Hun Sen will deliver Cambodia’s national statement at the UNGA General Debate, focusing on the Kingdom’s constructive role in supporting rule-based multilateralism, the coordinated fight against emerging global health threats, climate change, strengthening multilateral trade system, digital policies and green economy, as well as Cambodia’s ASEAN Chairmanship and efforts to mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 and sustain long-term socio-economic growth.

Besides, Samdech Techo Prime Minister will also have a series of meetings with H.E. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Charles Michel, President of the European Council, H.E. Ms. Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and H.E. Dr. José Manuel Ramos Horta, President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, as well as other leaders.

After attending the 77th UNGA, the Cambodian Premier will continue his trip to Cuba for an official visit, and to Japan to attend the State Funeral for H.E. ABE Shinzo, former Prime Minister of Japan, before returning home on Sept. 28.
