Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Ministry of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has spoken highly of the U.S.’ key contribution to the development of Cambodia.

According to H.E. Kao Kim Hourn, Minister Attached to the Prime Minister, during the meeting with Mr. Scott David Parven, Representative of Lobby Firm-Akin Gumps, in Washington D.C. in the morning of May 12 (Washington D.C. time), Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the U.S. has helped Cambodia a lot, including trade and investment promotion, mine clearance, human resource training, COVID-19 vaccines and so on.

The Cambodian Premier underlined that the Cambodia-U.S. ties have reached the highest level ever during the 72 years of relationship, while the bilateral trade and investment are on the rise.

In the first four months of 2022, the Cambodian exports to the U.S. saw a year-on-year increase of 44 percent, while many American companies have been doing business and investing in Cambodia, he added.

Anyway, he stressed, there are more things to do to avoid misunderstanding between both countries. Regarding the U.S.’ accusation of Chinese military presence at Cambodia’s Ream Naval Base, Samdech Techo Hun Sen reiterated that Cambodia has a clear stance and sticks to the neutral policy, i.e. no foreign troops are allowed on its territory, and Cambodia wants to befriend with all countries not only the U.S. or China. Cambodia also welcomed military drills with and the docking of naval vessels from other countries.

For his part, Mr. Scott David Parven said he has so far worked permanently with the Royal Cambodian Embassy in the U.S. and American key institutions to promote the relations between both nations.

He underlined that what Cambodia has done such as the country’s stance against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, climate change, humanitarian operations … should be praised and valued.
