PM Hun Sen: No More “Situation Room” in Cambodia

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen confirmed here yesterday morning that the Situation Room a coalition of watchdogs and other civil society groups for the election in Cambodia will not be allowed to be reestablished.

The ‘Situation Room’ is not different from a command post in the battlefield, so why is it established in Cambodia? asked the Premier while presiding over the 2nd National Forum on Protection and Conservation of Natural Resources organised at the Peace Palace.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen criticised the foreigners who are behind the Situation Room whose plan is to overthrow the government. Cambodian authorities have documents to prove its ill-will plan, he added.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister reminded that Cambodia needs security and social order for the development, democracy, and rule of law while the country is preparing for the National Election next year.

In late June this year, Samdech Techo Hun Sen urged the Ministry of Interior to conduct an investigation into the legality of the Situation Room, after this NGO released a statement affirming that there were some restrictions on the political freedom and limits to fairness even recognising some improvement in the election management in the fourth-mandate Commune/Sangkat Council Election on June 4, 2017.
