PM: Some Convicts Cannot Put Pressure on Election Process

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said here this morning that a small group of prisoners and convicts cannot constitute a political pressure to undermine the election process in Cambodia.

Speaking at the 65th founding anniversary of Customs and Excise of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen called on foreign diplomatic corps not to interfere in unlawful case and urged them to reform their ways of information gathering.

Do not intersperse individual issue with the political issue, said the Cambodian premier, asking the donor countries not to use their donations as a pretext to pressure Cambodia.

No matter what happens, the voter registration process for the commune/Sangkat council election will take place without hindrance, he underlined.

“Please don’t use a few people as a political reason to hamper the voter registration of some 9 to 10 million eligible people,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

In early June, the National Election Committee (NEC) announced to begin the three-month computerised voter registration on Sept. 1 while the number of eligible voters would be more than 9.6 million.
