Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen said he did not expect Phnom Penh, the capital city, to see that much development.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Russey Keo Bridge and Flyover in Phnom Penh this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen stressed that this is the fruit of full peace since late 1998.

“30 years ago, I didn’t expect Phnom Penh to dramatically develop as today,” he said. “I will take some time to see the real progress in Phnom Penh with my own eyes from the skyscrapers here.”

Phnom Penh is located in the south-central region of Cambodia, at the confluence of the Tonle Sap, Mekong, and Bassac rivers. These rivers provide potential freshwater and river ecosystems as important resources for sustainable environment conditions, nature’s beauty and a prosperous culture for the people of Phnom Penh from the past to the present.

The total land area in Phnom Penh was expanded from over 300 square kilometres to 692.46 square kilometres with the density of 2,123 people per square kilometre.
