PM Takes Action over Controversial Water Prices

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this morning took action over the controversial water price issue.

Today, I’ve just learnt that the cost of water in Phnom Penh is rising, while those who consume less pay the same rate as those who consume more, which makes the preferential policy for the poor non-applicable. This is opposite to my appeal to decrease the water prices, said Samdech Techo Hun Sen in a Facebook post.

I’ve already ordered Senior Minister and Minister of Industry and Handicraft H.E. Cham Prasidh, and his Secretary of State H.E. Ek Sonn Chan to work with the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority to return to the former formula for calculating the water charges and to pay back the exceeded amount to the consumers, he added.

Following the premier’s order, Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority made public an announcement apologising the consumers for the mistake in water charges calculation and pledged to get back to old formula and make a refund to them immediately.
