More than US$30 million have been so far collected to support Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen’s plan to buy COVID-19 vaccines to provide to the Cambodian citizens for free.
In the spirit of solidarity and culture of sharing among the Cambodian people, charitable people have up to now contributed in total over US$30 million, wrote the Premier on his official Facebook page this evening.
Yesterday evening, Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced to set aside some budget to buy 1 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for the first stage to provide for the high-risk and risk groups. But one million doses can be used only with 500,000 people (a person needs two doses) while the population of Cambodia is about 16 million, both children and adults, therefore around 10 million people need vaccines, he added.
Samdech Techo Prime Minister also planned to purchase 2 to 3 million more doses for the next phase.
Following the announcement, local tycoons, senior officials, civil servants and the general public donate their funds to the Premier’s plan.
As more and more people are volunteering to support this programme, Samdech Techo Hun Sen this afternoon announced two more channels to receive the funds. Charitable people can now contribute their financial support through H.E. Seng Teang, Secretary of State at the Office of the Council of Ministers (012 961 971), ABA Bank’s account Tep Sothy (001249176), ACLEDA Bank (00010556999989 for Riel and 00010556999999 for U.S. dollar), and Wing (9992 for Riel and 9991 for U.S. dollars).
As of this morning, the national tally of COVID-19 rose to 350, of them, 307 have successfully recovered with no fatal case.
