President Rodrigo Duterte orders the elimination of Abu Sayyaf militants

At least six members of militant group Abu Sayyaf were killed on 26 August, including one involved in the kidnapping of two Canadians who were beheaded in southern Philippines, according to regional military spokesman Major Filemon Tan. Soldiers clashed with 100 members of Abu Sayyaf as they carried out President Rodrigo Duterte’s orders to eliminate the militants, Tan stated. The rebel group has been known for extortion, kidnappings, and bombings. They are still holding foreign hostages from Norway, the Netherlands, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
