Promoting Battambang as Heritage Tourist Destination

Giving the area’s qualifications, Ministry of Tourism is considering to promote Cambodia’s far-northwest Battambang province as heritage tourist destination, according to local media report.

As cited in the source, Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon shared that the effort will be carried out through a collaboration with Hungary, looking forward to segmenting a new market for visitors from European countries.

The report also underlined impression of Mr. Ho Vandy, Secretary General of the National Tourism Federation of Cambodia, as saying that Battambang is potential for the fact that the province has preserved many heritage constructions and possesses good road infrastructure as well as other tourist attractions.

A total five million tourists visiting Cambodia in 2016 – around 5 percent increase compared to 2015.

Promoting Battambang as heritage tourist destination is one of other initiatives by the Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of Tourism in order not only to attract more tourists, but also encourage their longer stay in the country.
