Promoting Cashew Nut Processing and Rattan Products in Kampong Thom

Ministry of Tourism and Kampong Thom provincial authority is jointly promoting the processing of cashew nuts and rattan weaving handicraft in Sambor Prei Kuk community, according to local media report.

The cooperation was highlighted by Its Minister H.E. Thong Khon and H.E. Sok Lou, Governor of Kampong Thom province in their meeting with the locals of Sambor Prei Kuk tourism community yesterday in the province.

Mr. Seng An, President of Kampong Thom Provincial Tourism Department, underlined the community’s effort not only in increasing those products, but also helping train other communities in Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear and Rattanakiri provinces.

The community, continued the president, has also entered a five-year contract with foreign companies from Germany and Thailand to sell cashew nuts.

Even though there is positive progress of both products, the community is still facing the shortage of sufficient capital to purchase their stocks, he added.

H.E. Thong Khon shared his recommendations for the challenges of two products, and encouraged the people and local authority to also pay attention to promote other products including palm sugar, soy milk and silk-weaving, and beyond.
