The team of the Department of Conservation of Monuments in Angkor Park and Preventive Archaeology is working on the remaining tasks at the restoration site of the Angkor Wat Temple’s causeway in Siem Reap province.
The update was shared by the APSARA National Authority, adding that the restoration is scheduled to complete by the end of 2021.
According to Mr. An Sopheap, an Archaeologist and Head of Working Group in charge of Angkor Wat Temple’s causeway restoration project, by mid-November, almost 100 percent of work has been completed, adding that the work on the upper part of the causeway is 99 percent complete, while the lower part is about 80 percent complete.
However, he added, the restoration work on the northern central terrace of Angkor Wat Temple’s causeway will likely take another year to complete.
Angkor Wat Temple’s causeway restoration project is in its second phase, with a total length of 94 metres.
The restoration project started in 2016 under the cooperation between the APSARA National Authority and Sofia University of Japan.
