River Festival Attracts More Than 1 Million Visitors

The 5th River Festival, taking place in Kampong Chhnang province from Mar. 15 to 17, 2019 under the theme “River: Connecting Peace, People and Tourism”, attracted over 1 million national and international visitors.

The figure was shared by H.E. Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the River Festival Inter-Ministerial Organising Commission, underlining that that this annual event was wrapped up with success and joy.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse, Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, presided over the opening ceremony of this three-day festival, during which he announced the Royal Government’s decision to build a 3,900-kilometre-long bridge crossing the Tonle Sap River and a 57-kilometre-long road linking Kampong Chhnang province to Kampong Thom province, and this construction project would cost more than US$200 million.

River Festival is organised every year on a rotation basis by the riparian provinces. The first four River Festivals were celebrated in Kratie in 2015, Kampong Cham in 2016, Stung Treng in 2017, and Kandal in 2018.
