River Water Rises, But No Inundation Yet

River water level at Tonle Bassac hydrological station in Phnom Penh has been higher compared to the same period last year, yet there is no inundation.

According to Spokesperson and Head of Cabinet of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology H.E. Chan Yutha, water level at the station on April 28 was 2.25 metres 0.37 metre higher than this time in the previous year.

Despite the rise not only at the mentioned, but also other main stations in Cambodia the level of river water remains lower than multi-year average.

Currently high level of water, added the spokesperson, has been resulted by early rainfalls during the dry season, in particular April.

The ministry’s Deputy Director General of Technical Work Mr. Mao Hak said that usually the river waters caused some inundation in late May or early June.
