‘Run for Love’ to Shift Wrong Concept of Valentine’s Day

Women and sports committee of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) is set to organise another round of running event called Run for Love to happen on the up-coming Valentine's Day.

NOCC's Secretary General H.E. Vath Chamroeun shared the details of the race during a recent press conference taking place here in Phnom Penh.

More than 3,400 national and international athletes, he said, have registered for the 3-kilometre and 5-kilometre charity competitions at Koh Pich (Diamond Island) Convention and Exhibition Centre the heart of the capital.

He continued that the number of participants increases by 50 percent compared to that attending the same event last year.

The secretary general underscored that the annual event intends to shift perception among the public, especially youths who mistakenly interpret Valentine's Day as the occasion to express sexual relationship.

The running challenges along with other entertainment activities are expected to distract youths from sexual misconduct to sports with their loved ones during the Feb. 14 Valentine's Day.

Donations resulted by the race will go to support needy schools in Cambodia's provinces.
