Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng Visits Switzerland

A high level delegation of the Royal Government of Cambodia led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Samdech Kralahom Sar Kheng left here yesterday for a six-day official visit (June 20 to 25) to Switzerland.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Interior, the visit is aimed to strengthen the relations and partnership between the two countries in all sectors, especially to boost the cooperation in sub-national democratic development reform, which will help enhance Cambodia’s accountability, democracy, capacity building at sub-national level, as well as social security and sustainable development.

The visit will provide in-depth understanding on the implementation of democracy at the grassroots level, and decentralised governance system in Switzerland, it pointed out.

Switzerland, through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in collaboration with the European Union, has supported Cambodia’s sub-national democratic development efforts, which is a core governance reform of the Royal Government of Cambodia since 2013, it said.

During the visit, it added, Samdech Sar Kheng, also Chairman of the National Committee for Sub-national Democratic Development will meet with representatives from city, provincial and federal levels of Switzerland to discuss the decentralisation, education, fiscal centralization and so on.

Samdech Sar Kheng is scheduled to meet with H.E. Didier Burkhalter, Member of the Federal Council and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.
