Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, has requested India to consider the possibility of strengthening and expanding cooperation with Prey Veng province, especially Chea Sim University of Kamchaymear on information technology and agricultural skills.
The Deputy Prime Minister made the request when he and Indian Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade were visiting the Chea Sim University of Kamchaymear located in Kamchaymear district, Prey Veng province, some 110 kilometres from Phnom Penh capital city, early this week.
Samdech Sar Kheng suggested the establishment of city alliance between Prey Veng and an Indian province and between Chea Sim University of Kamchaymear and a university in India.
He also asked H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade to establish an exchange programme for students, and if possible, the Indian side can send Indian professors to transfer experience and knowledge at Chea Sim University of Kamchaymear.
The university is constructing a building for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which will contribute to training and building human resources for Cambodia’s socio-economic development, he said.
For her part, H.E. Dr. Devyani Khobragade expressed her support for Samdech Sar Kheng’s suggestion for the establishment of alliance between provinces and universities of both countries, and stressed that India also looked forward to city alliances with the Cambodian provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kep, and Kampot.
The ambassador also briefed Samdech Sar Kheng on India-funded development projects in Cambodia as well as the Government of India’s scholarship programme for Cambodian students. She thus encouraged the students of Chea Sim University of Kamchaymear to apply for the scholarship to pursue their studies in India.
