Samdech Say Chhum Receives Winners of Japan Human Resource Development Scholarship

Samdech Vibol Sena Pheakdei Say Chhum, President of Senate, has received 24 champions of Japan Human Resource Development Scholarships (JDS) for academic year 2019-2021, at his office here in Phnom Penh.

During the session on July 1, Samdech Say Chhum lauded good diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Japan through visit exchange between top leaders and high-level delegation of both countries, and through mutual support in international cooperation.

The senate president considered Japan as a strategic partner that has provided a lot of grants and loans to Cambodia, contributing vitally to Cambodia's economy, social affairs, technology, science, tourism and human resource development.

He also acknowledged Japan's assistance for the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) and elections in Cambodia.

He continued with key highlights about Cambodia that, as a lower middle-income country, the Kingdom's economic growth is projected to be at 7.1 percent, and the average individual income is US$1,548.

Samdech Say Chhum also laid stress on the efforts of the Royal Government of Cambodia to achieve the status of an upper middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income nation by 2050.

Taking the opportunity, he advised the JDS winners to comply well with Japanese laws and internal regulations of the universities, and maintain tradition, custom, good relations, friendship, and solidarity with other students.
