Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An Passes Away

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Office of the Council of Ministers (OCM), Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An, has passed away this evening in Beijing, China at the age of 66 years old, said an announcement of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

After a long battle with illness, Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An, also a Lawmaker for Takeo constituency, died in a hospital in Beijing, at around 18:32, it pointed out.

A committee headed by H.E. Bin Chhin, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, was formed to organise the funeral ceremony of late Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An, according to a government's decision signed by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.

Born on April 16, 1950 in Kirivong district, Takeo province, Samdech Vibol Panha Sok An has played a key role in the peace seeking process in Cambodia and in establishing the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) or the Khmer Rouge Tribunal. He was also recognised for the listing of the 11th-century Preah Vihear Temple as a UNESCO's World Heritage Site and for the leadership of APSARA National Authority which is tasked to be responsible for research, protection, and conservation as well as the urban and tourist development of the Angkor Archeological Park.
