Second National Games Concluded with Success

The Second National Games, which kicked off since May 25, was concluded successfully yesterday evening in a solemn ceremony.

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen presided over the closing ceremony held at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh.

Themed Sports Bring Peace and Development, the Second National Games, organised every two years, attracted in total 4,163 athletes of 27 sports from across the country to compete in 274 games.

On the occasion, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pride of the sports event and thanked the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, all the sports federations, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and the athletes for their contribution to the success of the Second National Games.

The current progress of the sports sector is thanks to the full peace in the country. Without peace, we cannot organise the sports event as today, underlined the Premier, calling on all his compatriots to take part in maintaining peace.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also highlighted the support of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and recalled the attention of His Majesty the late King-Father Samdech Preah Norodom Sihanouk’s attention to the sports sector.

The Prime Minister took the opportunity to urge all schools and institutions to create a sports field to encourage students and staff to do more exercise for good health.

Cambodia has been preparing to host the 32nd SEA Games in 2023. This regional competition is scheduled to take place in Phnom Penh capital city and in some provinces including Kampot, Kep, Takeo, Siem Reap, Battambang and Kampong Cham from Dec. 1 to 15, 2023. The two-week-long event is expected to attract about 10,000 delegates, of them 7,000 are athletes.

The draft master plan toward hosting the 32nd SEA Games has already been approved by the Cambodian cabinet meeting.

The Kingdom is committed to win at least 30 percent or one third of the total gold medals of 300 at this regional sports event.
