Sixty-Five Guides Join a Special Training Course on Siem Reap-Angkor

The APSARA National Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism are organising a ten-day special training course for 65 Siem Reap-Angkor tour guides.

The course’s opening ceremony took place in Siem Reap provincial city on June 7 under the presidency of Secretary of State at the Ministry of Tourism H.E. Pak Sokhom and Director General of APSARA National Authority H.E. Dr. Hang Peou.

H.E. Dr. Hang Peou said that this training course has two main purposes. First, share knowledge and introduce new tourism products in the region of Siem Reap-Angkor to tour guides, because they can be considered the most influential ambassadors to promote new research findings and new Khmer cultural achievements in confirming the true value of the Angkor site.

Second, he continued, we want the tour guides to cooperate with the tourism agents of APSARA National Authority by managing tourists in a new way in the Angkor site after the COVID-19 ending.

For his part, H.E. Pak Sokhom said that this training course is very important to equip the tour guides with more new knowledge so that they are ready to provide service for tourists in the region of Siem Reap-Angkor again after the COVID-19. He also urged all participants to pay attention and strive to gain new knowledge through this training session.

According to a news release of the APSARA National Authority, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the authority has improved the beautification at the main temples in the Angkor site, especially in the field of heritage research, which can provide additional knowledge for tour guides who are the important messengers in guiding tourists to understand the value of Angkor and Khmer culture to get real specific information from Angkor.
