Some 2,200 Runners Register for 3rd Angkor Empire Marathon

About 2,200 local people and foreigners have registered for the 3rd Angkor Empire Marathon in Siem Reap province by the end of July, according to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).

NOCC Secretary General H.E. Vath Chamroeun said that there are 1,200 foreigners registered to the event, and the committee ended the registration for foreign runners.

For Cambodians, even though the number of registered runners has already reached over 1,000, the registration is still open until this Friday, he added.

The Angkor Empire Marathon will take place in Siem Reap, home to the famous Angkor temples, a UNESCO's listed site, on Aug. 7 on the stretch road of 42 kilometres.

This event is aimed to enhance health and promote Cambodia's sports sector, particularly to attract tourists to visit the Kingdom during this rainy season.
