Special Schools for Deaf or Blind Children Now Under Education Ministry’s Management

The special schools for deaf or blind children, run so far by Krousar Thmey (New Family) Organisation, were now under the management of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, in a ceremony held in Sangkat Phnom Penh Thmey, Phnom Penh this morning.

The event, organised along with the official inauguration of the National Institute for Special Education, was presided over by Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his spouse, Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen.

This special school was opened for deaf or blind children since 1991 by Krousar Thmey Organisation. Such school is now present across Cambodia, including Phnom Penh capital, and Battambang, Siem Reap and Kampong Cham provinces.

Currently, 702 students, of them 286 girls, are studying in Krousar Thmey's special schools employing 162 teachers.

The Royal Government of Cambodia, especially Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen and his spouse, always pay high attention to the special schools. As usual, they visit the Krousar Thmey's blind and deaf-mute children twice a year. They have assisted the organisation since 1995 and beside the visit, they donate rice every month and some budget to the organisation to support its operation.
