Spokesperson of Foreign Affairs Reacts Against Cambodian-born Australian MP

The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFA-IC) released here this afternoon a statement in a reaction to Mr. Hong Lim, Member of Parliament of Victoria, Australia who has labeled Cambodia as "beast" during his interview with Radio Free Asia on Aug. 4, 2016.

"The MFA-IC has been very shocked to learn about the great humiliation brought upon the Cambodian Nation by this Cambodian-born Australian MP," said the statement.

The MFA-IC condemns in the strongest term this individual Hong Lim, for this disgraceful statement that is completely inconsistent with the reality in Cambodia, it underlined.

"The Kingdom of Cambodia and Australia have been enjoying the relations of friendship and good cooperation in many fields. We hope that the statement made by Hong Lim does not in any way reflect the views of the Government and people of Australia as a whole," said the statement.

"We have been impressed by the strong reactions and condemnations made by many Australians, among them members of parliament and high personalities of Victoria, as well as the Cambodian community against his irresponsible and unfounded statement," it added.

The humiliation made by Hong Lim upon the Cambodian Nation has pushed the MFA-IC to consider him as persona non grata for the Kingdom of Cambodia, concluded the statement.
