Strong Cambodia-Russia Ties, More in Social and Economic Sectors

Cambodia-Russia flourishing cooperation in many fields over the last few decades is thanks to both sides’ steadfast political trust at the highest level and mutual support on regional and global stages, said senior Cambodian official and Russian ambassador.

Speaking at a reception to mark the 28th anniversary of the National Day of the Russian Federation organised in Phnom Penh yesterday evening, H.E. Senior Minister Ly Thuch underlined, Cambodia always remembers with deep gratitude the precious assistance that the Russian people and government had extended to us during our most difficult time when we tried to rebuild the nation from the ash of the wartime devastation.

The senior minister added that the frequent leaders meetings and visit exchange in recent years as well as the successful conclusion of last year’s 10th session of Cambodia-Russian intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation are the testimony of strength of both countries’ growing partnership.

Ambassador H.E. Dmitry Tsvetkov of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Cambodia said that the two nations’ cooperation has its roots back in the middle of 20th century.

It is notable that one of the symbols of strong friendship between the two peoples is the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh, said the ambassador, likening the ties to the saying old friend is better than new one.

Since then and until now, we have been doing a lot more for Cambodia-Russia relations to develop in multi-aspect and comprehensive manner. he said. We are doing even more to jointly unleash the potential of bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of our nations and for the good and security in the Asia-Pacific region.

This is the way we treat our Cambodian partners, with whom we are intended to work closely to realise our common goals, stressed the ambassador.

Russia continued to support Cambodia in education and human resource development that played key role in Cambodia’s socio-economic progress. Both sides looked to improve trade, investment, and tourism for mutual interest that falls in line with Russia’s approach of seeking to develop equitable and mutually respective inter-state dialogue for the purpose of implementing common tasks.

Such Russia approach is widely shared by Cambodia as well, H.E. Dmitry Tsvetkov stressed.

We are tied by traditionally friendly relations marked by great level of mutual understanding and trust in political sphere and constructive interaction on international arena. We have all necessary preconditions for developing practical interaction in the spheres of economy, trade and investment, as well as in cultural and educational contacts and exchanges, H.E. Ambassador concluded.
