The Sunhak Peace Prize is a recognition of Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s steadfast leadership over many years as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and his contributions to peace, stability and economic development in Cambodia and the region at large.
The remarks were made by the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) in a press release issued on Feb. 9.
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia and Honorary Founding Chairman of the ACC, has been selected to receive the 2022 Founders Special Honorary Award of the Sunhak Peace Prize that is announced in the Special Press Conference of the Sunhak Peace Prize Committee held on Feb. 7, 2022 in Seoul, the Republic of Korea.
“Samdech Techo Hun Sen is a peace champion who has devoted himself to saving lives and building peace for humanity. He took a life risk to liberate the Cambodian people from Pol Pot’s murderous regime. He supported peace talks that led to the signing of the Paris Peace Agreements, the restoration of the monarchy, and the establishment of the multi-party electoral democratic political system in Cambodia. He initiated and led the implementation of the Win-Win Policy that ended the long civil war and brought full peace to Cambodia in December 1998. His policy embraces inclusiveness, harmony, and coexistence among all Cambodians regardless of their previous backgrounds,” the press release underlined.
Cambodia’s long-lasting peace has provided the country and the people with many opportunities for socio-economic development, human resource development, poverty alleviation, as well as rural and urban development, it added.
By ending the war in Cambodia, it continued, Samdech Techo Hun Sen contributed to ending the war in the Mekong region and ASEAN, thus allowing the region to turn formerly militarised border areas into the border of peace, cooperation, and development. Having achieved peace at home, Prime Minister Hun Sen wishes to assist in achieving regional and global peace. Therefore, he has been active in assisting the peace processes in Myanmar and on the Korean Peninsula. The Cambodian government has also sent thousands of Cambodian soldiers to join UN peacekeeping and mine clearance missions in Africa and the Middle East. Samdech Techo has inspired Cambodians to promote peace at home and abroad for human development, progress, and prosperity.
The Sunhak Peace Prize is one of the world’s most prestigious peace awards established in recognition of “individuals and organisations that have served humanity in exemplary ways, making the world better for future generations.
