Suspension of Travel and Work Permit for Cambodians in Two Thai Provinces

Commencing Jan. 15, the service to issue travel and work permits for Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand's Rayong and Chachoengsao provinces will be suspended, according to a recent announcement from the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand.

Following the suspension, wrote the statement, Cambodian workers can claim back their passport as well as travel and support documents, or apply for the so-called Overseas Cambodian Worker Card (OCWC) at the Permanent Secretariat of the Committee for Legalising Cambodian Workers in the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Bangkok.

Based on the committee's record, nearly 35,000 Cambodian workers were legalised for work permit in Thailand in 2017.

Latest figure available from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training indicates that among 1.5 million Cambodian overseas workers, 1,050,000 are working in Thailand.
