Sweden Support Scientific Education at RUPP

Swedish development agency has granted funding assistance for Cambodia’s Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) particularly to promote scientific education.

The agreement was signed here in Phnom Penh on Wednesday in the presence of Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports H.E. Hang Chuon Naron and Ms. AnnaMaria Oltorp, Head of the Research Cooperation Unit at Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

Lasting for four years, the US$10 million assistance looks into promoting support facilities, information and communication technology, researches and postgraduate capacity building in science.

Science, as stressed by Ms. AnnaMaria Oltorp, is an essential foundation for development, and it is best to work with the RUPP to advance the field in Cambodia.

From his side, H.E. Hang Chuon Naron expressed his appreciation of the assistance from the Swedish development agency, and was optimistic that it will play an essential role in further promoting the development of Cambodia.

The Royal University of Phnom Penh has been supported by Swedish assistance for about ten years, primarily in the area of chemistry, physics, and maths.
