Temporary Means To Be Constructed When Chroy Changvar Bridge is Under Rehabilitation

Phnom Penh capital hall has planned to construct a temporary steel bridge crossing the Tonle Sap River in Phnom Penh to address traffic issue when the Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge is under rehabilitation.

Capital Governor H.E. Khuong Sreng and his technical team brought the initiative for a recent discussion with a delegation led by Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Mr. Yuichi Sugano at the capital hall.

According to capital hall spokesperson Mr. Met Meas Pheakdey, the proposal has been agreed and a construction group called Overseas Cambodia Investment Corporation (OCIC) will carry out the construction of the steel bridge.

The construction of the steel bridge was scheduled to take place in September 2017, the same time with the commencement of the rehabilitation of the Cambodian-Japanese Friendship Bridge, known as Chroy Changvar Bridge.

The steel bridge will stretch across Tonle Sap River from Phnom Penh's new Freedom Park in Khan Rusey Keo of Phnom Penh to the other side.

H.E. Khuong Sreng, as told by the spokesperson, is positive that the temporary bridge will address traffic congestion issue when Chroy Changvar Bridge is closed for rehabilitation, and urged the construction company to ensure its quality despite the bridge's temporary role.
