Tourism Minister Shares Cambodia’s Successful COVID-19 Control in G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting

Minister of Tourism H.E. Thong Khon has shared Cambodia’s successful experience in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic which has led to the reopening of border to tourists, in the G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting in Indonesia.
H.E. Thong Khon led a delegation to attend the meeting held under the theme “Recover Together, Recover Stronger” on Sept. 26 in Bali, Indonesia, with the participation of 24 countries, nine relevant international organisations, and development partners.
Besides sharing the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC)’s efforts and experience in tourism recovery, H.E. Thong Khon laid stress on some priorities in restoring the ASEAN tourism sector set forth by the ASEAN Tourism Ministers’ Meeting chaired by Cambodia during the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2022 (ATF2022) in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province earlier this year.
For more than two years, the RGC led by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has worked hard to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and effectively address the impact through health and administrative measures, economic stimulus and social intervention, he said.
“The Prime Minister’s determination to make vaccination a key strategy has made Cambodia one of the countries with the highest vaccination coverage rates in the world and strong herd immunity, leading to the resumption of socio-economic activities, including the country reopening for fully vaccinated tourists since late 2021,” H.E Thong Khon underlined.
Moreover, he mentioned about the ongoing active implementation of the Cambodia Tourism Roadmap 2020-2025 consisting of three stages: Resilience and Restart 2020-2021, Recovery 2022-2023, and Relaunch 2024-2025.
H.E. Minister also requested the G20 countries and development partners to support and cooperate with ASEAN in developing its tourism.
He took the opportunity to invite the G20 ministerial delegates to visit Cambodia and attend the 2023 SEA Games to be hosted by the Kingdom next year.
